Built around a link, not an account

Most games with friends ask you to sign up first and find each other second. This one works the other way round. A room is just a URL — /room/ABC123 — and the person holding it is the second player. Nothing is stored about either of you on a server.

That also makes it easy to hand a game to someone who is not going to install anything. A parent, a colleague on a break, a friend on a train.

What it is good for

  • Short bursts. A one-round 4×4 match fits in a coffee queue. Move up to a best of 5 on a 4×8 grid when you have longer.
  • Mixed ability. A fast reader has an edge as a finder, but a cunning chooser can hide a word so well the advantage evens out.
  • Playing across ages. The words are everyday nouns, the rules take one sentence, and there is nothing to read mid-game.

House rules worth agreeing on

Nothing in the game stops a chooser from picking the longest, most obvious word on the board every single round — but it is not a great way to win, and it is a worse way to keep an opponent. Two conventions that make matches better: agree a grid size before you start so nobody is surprised by a twenty-minute game, and take the rematch immediately while the pool is still fresh in your head.

How to play

Choose → Find → Fill → Switch → Repeat. Fill your grid to take the round; win the rounds to take the match.

  1. Choose

    On your turn, pick any item from the scattered pool — a word, a number or a letter. You have 30 seconds.

  2. Find

    Your opponent has to spot that exact item among all the others and tap it.

  3. Fill

    While they search, you tap cells on your own grid. Every tap fills one X.

  4. Switch

    The moment they find it, your fill window closes and the roles swap.

Common questions

How do I invite a friend?
Create a room and you get a six character code plus a shareable link. Send either one through any chat app. Whoever opens it takes the second seat.
Do we both need the same kind of phone?
No. It runs in any modern browser — an iPhone and an Android tablet can play each other, or a phone against a laptop.
What happens if my friend loses signal?
The room keeps the game state. A short disconnection does not end the match; when they come back the board is exactly where they left it.
